En inglés, el simple past (pretérito) es un tiempo gramatical en cuando una acción ocurió y fue completada en el pasado.
Esta lección explica como se forma el simple past por los verbos regulares.
Para los verbos regulares, el simple past está formado al añadir -ed a la forma base del verbo (infinitivo sin to).

Las conjugaciones de todos los verbos regulares son las mismas por todas
personas.

Paro los pocos verbos en inglés que terminan con un vocal que no sea -e, hay que añadir -ed.

Excepciones: los verbos GO (ir) y DO (hacer) son verbos irregulares:

Para verbos regulares que terminan en una vocal+y, hay que añadir -ed.

Excepciones: say (decir) y buy (comprar) son verbos irregulares: véase abajo.
Para verbos regulares que terminan en una
consonante+y,
hay que cambiar la -y por -i y añadir -ed.

Cuando el verbo regular tiene más que una sílaba, en el inglés americano
la consonante final está
doblada, pero solamente cuando el acento tónico cae en la última sílaba.

En estos ejemplos, el acento tónico no cae en la última sílaba. No hay que
doblar el consonante.

Aquí hay ejemplos de frases con verbos regulares en el simple past.

| He asks a lot of questions. Hace muchas preguntas. |
He asked a lot of questions. Hizo muchas preguntas. |
Verbos irregulares no usan la morfema -ed para formar el
pretérito. Para transformarlos al pretérito hay que cambiar la ortografía.
