Many items that we buy come in containers. Containers may have a specific name depending on their shape and the material they are made of.

Bag/Sack
Bag and sack are synonyms. Some regions of North America tend to use one term more than the other.

Baskets are often made from woven natural materials which include grass, pine needles, and reeds. Now, baskets are also made of plastic.

Can
Can refers to a container made of metal. Some containers that used to be made of metal but are now made of plastic are sometimes still referred to as "cans."

Jar
The difference between a bottle and a jar is a bottle has a narrow opening/mouth while a jar has a large opening/mouth. Often, the mouth of a jar is same diameter as the jar itself. Jars are only made of glass.
