Learn English English Indefinite Article

The English indefinite article, a, an, one, is used to refer to something unspecific.

I bought a car
He saw a bird
There's a book on the table
Do you have a pen?

The indefinite article an is used in front of words that begin with a vowel sound, which does not necessarily correspond to the letter that the word actually begins with.

I bought an apple
That's an interesting idea
I have to wait an hour
We have an understanding
They bought a house
He has a unique idea

The indefinite article one - which is also a number - indicates that there is only one of something.

I bought one apple
He has one brother
I only saw one car
