Auxiliary verbs are used with a main verb to form a statement or a question. They are sometimes referred to as "helping verbs" because the main verb needs "help" in order to complete a sentence or question. Auxiliary verbs always precede the main verb.

The auxiliary verbs be, do, and have are conjugated and have tense. Modal verbs aren't conjugated and don't have tense.
