Negative statements are the opposite of affirmative statements. In English, there are several ways to create negative statements.
affirmative | negative |
She is hungry. | She is not hungry. |
I have friends at work. | I have no friends at work. |
There are some over there. | There are none over there. |
Tom always walks to school. | Tom never walks to school. |
Somebody is here. | Nobody is here. |
Something happened. | Nothing happened. |
Both parents have arrived. | Neither parent has arrived. |
Tom and Sue have left. | Neither Tom nor Sue has left. |
We’re happy and pleased. | We’re unhappy and displeased. |
